Value Creators 2010: Rebound but Not Yet Recovery

Market valuations rebounded significantly in 2009 after the massive losses incurred as a result of the global financial crisis. Despite impressive gains, however, only about one-third of large-cap global companies fully recouped their downturn losses to generate net positive total shareholder return (TSR) for the two-year period 2008–2009. This article, based on a study of more than 2,000 companies across 40 countries and 37 selected industries, examines trends in TSR performance during the downturn and subsequent market rebound.
